As the owner of Federal Benefits Online, LLC, I currently travel throughout the United States conducting workshops for employees of agencies of the Federal Government to help them take advantage of the retirement, life, health, and other benefits provided to them by their employer. I also work closely with financial advisers to provide comprehensive training as part of our FedSmart adviser training program for those advisers who would like to gain knowledge of the benefits programs available to Federal employees, and work with employees of the nation’s largest employer. We connect financial advisers and Federal employees.
I started my career in the financial services industry as a ‘stockbroker’, and am a former Certified Financial Planner (CFP), operating a financial planning practice in Denver, Colorado for several years. During that time, I developed and presented public seminars on various financial and investment topics. I also spoke to local organizations and companies about financial planning, and was a guest and host on a Denver radio talk show called “The Money Corner”.
I also managed a financial planning department for a division of MetLife, and played a key role in developing a Small Business Target Market Program to help their advisers satisfy the investment and benefit needs of small business owners. While at MetLife, I also ‘carried the bag’ as a wholesaler of qualified retirement plans for small businesses — assisting representatives with designing, selling, and servicing all types of employer-sponsored retirement plans.
I’ve also sold financial custody services to Registered Investment Advisers during my tenure at Fiserv Investment Support Services, and was the Director of Practice Management at Curian Capital (an $11.4 billion third-party money manager that’s a subsidiary of Jackson National Life) where I had the opportunity to learn more about the business of financial advice than any other time in my career.
Oh, and many moons ago, I was a founding member of the Colorado Society of Certified Financial Planners (now the FPA of Colorado), and served as its President and Chairman.
I live in Denver, Colorado with my wife, Maria, an accountant for a small oil and gas company. My daughter, Molly, is completing a Fellowship in Emergency Pediatric Medicine in Las Vegas, NV.
Does any of this mean that I know what I’m talking about? I’ll let you be the judge of that.
